Say Goodbye To Microsoft’s Digital Assistant Cortana come 2020

Come 31 January 2020 Microsoft announced that it is ending support for its digital assistant Cortana for iOS and Android devices outside of the US.

Though the support for Cortana will be gone on mobile, Microsoft is still retaining Cortana and integrating the assistant in its Microsoft 365 app.

Considering that Microsoft’s upcoming and yet-to-be-released Surface Headphones utilises Cortana, its removal from the two most popular mobile operating systems is rather confusing, though it is possible that Microsoft will change things up along the way.

Truly confusing, but we can take comfort that Cortana is not truly gone as it will still handle things like your reminders, lists and calendar items within the app.

Part of the reason Microsoft reason is taking the Halo-inspired Artificial Intelligence (AI) off the table is likely because it simply can’t compete with the bigger and more popular AIs out there namely Siri and Google Assistant.

While this is a sad turn around for Microsoft’s AI, it can at the very least live on in a small way though it will never quite achieve the glory it was made to achieve.
