Apple Reportedly Tapping Google’s Gemini to Power Siri Revamp
Apple is reportedly paying tech rival Google to create a custom, Gemini-based artificial intelligence model to help power its long-awaited revamp of the Siri voice assistant, according to a report from Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter.
The custom model is expected to run on Apple’s private cloud servers, a move designed to equip Siri with the advanced AI features that users now expect from modern assistants.
The decision reportedly came after Apple held a “bake-off” between Google and AI firm Anthropic. While the report states that Apple determined Anthropic offered a “better model,” Google’s proposal ultimately “made more sense financially.” This was due in part to the two tech giants’ pre-existing search partnership.
This strategic shift aims to significantly boost Siri’s capabilities as Apple prepares for a major push into AI and smart home technology in 2026. Despite the collaboration, the integration is expected to be kept under wraps, with the report noting that neither company is expected to “ever discuss this partnership publicly.”
Furthermore, the report clarifies that this backend enhancement will not result in a “Google-flooded” experience. Users should not expect to see Siri integrated with Gemini features already found on Android devices. Instead, the goal is to power a distinctly Apple user interface, designed to “undo years of damage to the brand” and deliver on Apple’s own AI strategy.
