Perlis has recently inaugurated its first public DC fast charger, situated at Starbucks Kangar Jaya. Azlan Mahmud, a member of the Malaysian Electric Vehicle Owners Club (MyEVOC), announced the operational status of the charging station. Notably, the station is now accessible through the chargEV app, allowing users to avail of its services for a fee of RM1.20 per kWh.
First DC charger in Perlis now open

Yinson GreenTech (YGT) spearheaded the setup of this DC fast charger, boasting a robust maximum output of 60 kW and featuring two CCS2-type charging guns. The strategic location of the charger, approximately 40 km from the Malaysian-Thai border checkpoint at Padang Besar, offers enhanced convenience for electric vehicle (EV) owners. This development proves especially beneficial for those seeking a quick charge before crossing into Thailand.

With this new infrastructure, EV owners traveling northwards to Thailand will find an alternative to relying on DC fast chargers located in Alor Setar and Sungai Petani in Kedah. Additionally, there are plans for another operational DC fast charger near the Padang Besar checkpoint, expected to be at Starbucks Changlun in Kedah, approximately 40 km from the border town.
Anticipated to be accessible through the Setel and JomCharge apps, these chargers will fall under the cross-access charging agreement involving chargeEV, Gentari, and JomCharge. This collaboration aims to streamline the charging experience for EV users, promoting widespread accessibility and fostering a seamless transition towards electric mobility.
