Google Pixels are known for their AI smarts, and the upcoming Pixel 9 series is reportedly set to bring even more. According to Android Authority, the new Pixel smartphones will come with Google AI. Here’s a breakdown of the leaked features:
Google AI: A Mix of Old and New

- Circle to Search: Existing feature that lets you search by identifying objects in a photo (available on some Pixels and other devices).
- Gemini: Existing on-device AI assistant for various tasks (available on all Android phones).
Three New Intriguing Features
Add Me: This feature aims to ensure everyone’s included in group photos. It might be an upgrade to “Best Take” (Pixel 8), which merges photos with different people. This suggests Google is focusing on fixing photos after the fact, using AI.
Studio (possibly Creative Assistant): This app integrates with the screenshot editor, allowing you to create (“remix”) stickers. However, leaks suggest it might be a more powerful, all-in-one generative AI image tool, similar to Apple’s Image Playground. Google already has image and video-generating models (ImageFX, VideoFX). How Studio integrates with other apps will be interesting.
Pixel Screenshots (Google’s Take on Recall): This resembles Microsoft’s controversial Recall feature (captures everything you do and uses on-device AI for search). Pixel Screenshots, however, is more privacy-focused. It only works on screenshots you take, adding metadata like app names and links. A local AI (possibly the new multimodal Gemini Nano) then lets you search screenshots by content and ask questions about them. This seems like a better approach than Microsoft’s for privacy reasons.
The Competition: Motorola’s Take on Recall
Motorola is also working on a similar feature to Google’s Pixel Screenshots, focusing on user-taken screenshots rather than automatic screen capture.
Overall, Google Pixel 9 seems to be getting interesting AI-powered features, with a focus on enhancing photos and improving screenshot search with privacy in mind. It will be interesting to see how these features work in practice.
