Nothing Launches Community-Developed Nothing Phone (3a) Community Edition

Nothing has launched the Nothing Phone (3a) Community Edition, a device developed through direct collaboration with external creators. The release follows the conclusion of the company’s latest Community Edition Project, an initiative announced back in March that employs emerging talent to shape the design, software, and marketing of a production-ready device.

The 2025 project drew more than 700 submissions across multiple disciplines, highlighting the brand’s approach to incorporating community contributions beyond standard feedback mechanisms. The program, which previously won an iF Design Gold Award for its 2024 edition, is presented by Nothing as a way to integrate creative fans into the product development lifecycle.

The Four Co-Creators

Four winners were selected and worked directly with Nothing’s in-house teams in London. Each contributor was awarded a £1,000 cash prize to support their involvement.

Nothing Phone 3a Community Edition Box

The creators and their contributions are:

  • Emre Kayganacl (Hardware Design): Developed a hardware and packaging design drawing inspiration from late 1990s and early 2000s tech aesthetics, creating a distinct colour profile while retaining the Phone (3a)’s overall look.
  • Ambrogio Tacconi & Louis Aymond (Reveland) (Accessory): Designed “The Dice,” a new accessory that incorporates Nothing’s signature Ndot 55 font into a classic design element.
  • Jad Zock (Lock Screen Clock & Wallpaper Design): Created a custom, multi-font-weight clock face aimed at visual efficiency, alongside an exclusive wallpaper available in four versions (two blue, two purple) for the device’s interface.
  • Sushruta Sarkar (Marketing Campaign): Conceived the ‘Made Together’ campaign, focused on celebrating the design and collaboration process itself, regardless of the final product specifications.

Corporate Strategy and Community Involvement

Nothing continues to expand its model of community participation, which includes the elected Community Board Observer role, designed to introduce the community perspective into board discussions.

This initiative coincides with Nothing’s strategic pivot toward developing AI-native operating systems. The company recently opened a new USD5 million community investment round, allowing supporters to invest at the same share price as institutional investors, reflecting the company’s USD1.3 billion Series C valuation. Early access to the investment round began on 10 December via Wefunder and Crowdcube.

Nothing Phone 3a Community Edition

The Nothing Phone (3a) Community Edition is configured with the Nothing Phone (3a) 12GB+256GB specification. Nothing confirmed that the production run will be strictly limited to 1,000 units globally.

The device is priced at RM1,699. Public registration for sales opened from 9 to 11 December, with the limited sales window beginning on 12 December via nothing.tech and select retail partners. The Phone (3a) Community Edition will also be available for purchase at the Nothing Store in Soho, London, starting 13 December.
