Red Magic has unveiled the new Red Magic 9S Pro and 9S Pro+ gaming smartphones, packing a more powerful chipset and an improved cooling system.
Red Magic 9S Pro and 9S Pro+ Launched
Both phones boast the “Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Leading Version,” a tweaked version of the flagship chip with a faster main CPU core (3.4GHz) and a more powerful GPU (1GHz). This translates to an impressive AnTuTu score of over 2.3 million, according to Red Magic. The key highlight is the revamped ICE 13.5 cooling system. It features a larger vapor chamber (10,182mm²), new cooling gel, and a 22,000 RPM active cooling fan. This combination promises to lower the chipset temperature by up to 19.5°C compared to the previous generation.
Users can choose between two battery options:
- Red Magic 9S Pro: A large 6,500mAh battery with 80W fast charging (full charge in 35 minutes).
- Red Magic 9S Pro+: A smaller 5,500mAh battery with a faster 165W charging speed (full charge in 16 minutes).
Both phones also offer the option to bypass the battery and use external power for extended gaming sessions.
Display and Controls
The 6.8-inch OLED display (BOE Q9+) features a unique rectangular design with an under-display selfie camera (16MP) for an uninterrupted gaming experience. It boasts a 120Hz refresh rate, 1,116 x 2,480px resolution, and a 2,000Hz touch sampling rate. Additionally, there are a pair of 520Hz shoulder triggers for enhanced gaming control.
Other Features
In terms of connectivity, the 9S Pro and 9S Pro+ are well-equipped for both wired and wireless options. They boast the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard for super-fast internet speeds and USB-C 3.2 for quick data transfer. Gamers will appreciate the inclusion of a 3.5mm headphone jack for wired headphones, ensuring uninterrupted audio during gameplay.
The phones also pack a punch in the audio department with dual speakers certified with DTS:X Ultra technology. This ensures immersive and powerful sound for both gaming and multimedia consumption. While the focus is on gaming performance, the phones don’t skimp on cameras. The rear features a dual camera system with a main 50MP sensor (GN5 with OIS) and a secondary 50MP ultrawide sensor (JN1). This allows for capturing high-quality photos and videos.
The Red Magic 9.5 OS adds another layer of functionality with its AI features. These include Smart Navigator for real-time recommendations, AI Trigger for customised actions during gameplay, and Sound Recognition for integrating in-game events with sounds you hear in your surroundings.
Storage and Pricing
- Red Magic 9S Pro: 12GB RAM with 256GB or 512GB storage (starting at CNY4,800 or RM3,115).
- Red Magic 9S Pro+: 16GB RAM with 512GB storage (starting at CNY5,800 or RM3,764).
A special edition 9S Pro+ with a whopping 24GB RAM and 1TB storage is also available for a staggering CNY7,000 (RM4,543).
The phones will be available in China from the 9th of July.
