ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) Malaysia has unveiled the pricing and pre-order details for the ROG Ally X, the latest iteration of their popular handheld gaming console. Designed for seamless Windows 11 gaming wherever you go, the Ally X boasts the same AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor but features significant upgrades in storage, RAM, and battery life.
ROG Ally X Delivers Enhanced Performance for Demanding Games
Taking user feedback to heart, ROG has amped up several core components. The new 1TB SSD offers ample space for your game library. This is a significant leap from the 512GB on the original Ally. The ROG Ally X also boasts a redesigned motherboard. It features an M.2 2280 form factor slot, allowing for easier upgrades to even larger storage drives. Complementing the storage boost is 24GB of speedy LPDDR5X-7500 RAM for multitasking and flexibility. As an APU, the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme shares video RAM with the system’s RAM. With modern games demanding more VRAM for high-resolution textures, the increased RAM allows for better performance in next-gen AAA titles.
Battery life has doubled. The ROG Ally X packs an 80Wh battery, ensuring extended gaming sessions away from an outlet. Remarkably, despite this substantial boost, the ROG Ally X weighs only 70 grams more than its predecessor. The weight distribution is optimised for comfortable handheld gaming.
Improved Controls and Connectivity
The ROG Ally X sports a redesigned chassis in a sleek black colourway. It features deeper grips and a more rounded form. This enhances comfort without significantly adding bulk. The designers have arranged the buttons and joysticks for better ergonomics, slanting the triggers for easier actuation. They have reduced the size of the macro buttons on the back to minimise accidental presses while keeping them accessible. The joysticks are now more durable, boasting a 5-million-cycle lifespan and stiffer springs for a familiar feel to seasoned gamers. The D-Pad has also been revamped for more precise eight-directional input, ideal for fighting games and retro titles.
In response to user requests for wider compatibility, the original XG Mobile port has been replaced with two USB-C ports on the Ally X. One of these ports is Thunderbolt-compatible, offering extensive connectivity with third-party docks and external GPUs.
Enhanced Thermal Management
To accommodate the new battery, the ROG Ally X features innovative fans that are 23% smaller yet utilise 50% thinner blades for improved airflow. Two new tunnels channel air upwards and out through an additional exhaust vent on the top of the device. This innovative thermal solution delivers 24% more airflow, effectively cooling internal components and the touchscreen, which stays up to 6°C cooler for prolonged gaming comfort.

The ROG Ally X (2024) is priced at RM4,299 in Malaysia and is available for pre-order from the 17th to the 31st of July, 2024.
