David Game College, a private school in London, plans to launch a new GCSE class in September. In this class, students will be taught using a combination of AI platforms and virtual reality headsets. Specifically, the AI systems will create tailored lesson plans for each student. Furthermore, they will identify students’ strengths and weaknesses and adjust the curriculum accordingly.
The school’s co-principal, John Dalton, argues that Artificial Intelligence can offer a level of precision and accuracy that human teachers cannot match. “I think it’s very difficult to achieve [AI’s] level of precision and accuracy, and also that continuous evaluation,” he said. “Ultimately, if you really want to know exactly why a child is not learning, I think the AI systems can pinpoint that more effectively.”
The school believes that Artificial Intelligence can provide a more personalised and effective learning experience. However, critics have raised concerns about the potential negative consequences. For instance, Chris McGovern, a retired head teacher and former advisor to the UK government, warns that relying too heavily on AI could lead to a “soulless, bleak future” for education.
