You’ve probably written off POCO as just another “budget brand”, but hold on, because they just released their first ever global F Series Ultra phone – the POCO F7 Ultra! It is packed with flagship specs like the Snapdragon 8 Elite, a stunning WQHD+ AMOLED screen, 120W charging, and more.
But there’s still that ONE feature that they are still holding back, and it might just matter to you.
Unboxing & Design
In the box, there’s a black color TPU soft phone case, and yes, an included massive 120W fast charging brick.
So my one is in the Yellow color variant, very nice, bold, and loud, as you expect from POCO.
But there’s also a Black color version if you want to keep it slightly lowkey.
It comes with a glass back with a metal frame, but the best part is that it has an IP68 dust and water resistance, something which has never been done on this particular F series from POCO.
I love how it doesn’t wobble when you type the phone on a surface or on a table, even with the camera bump being towards the left hand side. It weighs about 212g, not too bulky, neither is it too light.
The bezels are slim, but the black color frame around the phone does make it look like the bezels are thicker than it is, but I do appreciate the slightly curved edges that blend nicely into the frame.
Display
Speaking of which, the display is a 6.67” 2K AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, but even with a massive 3,200 nits of peak brightness.
So it is definitely one of the best screens, matching the recently released Xiaomi 15 Ultra with the exact resolution and also the peak brightness value too.
So yes, this display looks really good, it is color accurate, and it has HDR10+ with Dolby Vision support. Like many flagships, this has tons of TÜV Rheinland certification, so your eyes will thank you, especially if you love watching videos or using your phones in a darker environment or even at night.
Specs & Software
Inside, there’s the latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Elite 3nm chip, still the most efficient and powerful chip in the smartphone game. Yep, I hope Exynos and MediaTek are taking some notes over here.
There are two options: 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, or 16GB of RAM with 512GB of storage. But what’s nice is that the speed of the RAM and the storage are on par with the likes of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, because it uses an LPDDR5X RAM with UFS 4.1 storage too, so that was really nice.
POCO phones have always been known to be the best at gaming performance, so there’s a VisionBoost D7 chip, which is a dedicated graphic boost chip that will give you the best gaming results.
And yes, there is the AI integration all included in this phone. So yes, welcome to 2025, which supports Xiaomi HyperAI powered by Google Gemini.
So you’ll find features like the Circle to Search, AI writing, and more, where there’s even an AI speech or voice recognition built in. This particular AI speech or voice recognition is probably not the best, but decent to say the least.
Camera
On to the cameras, the POCO F7 Ultra comes with a triple camera setup with OIS, led by a 50MP main camera. And based on my quick shots, as expected for POCO phones, this Ultra looks great during the day and at night too.
Then there’s also a 50MP telephoto camera, and this has to be my favorite, because the photos taken over here, especially for the 48mm and even the 120mm, look really nice.
And the 32MP ultrawide camera for the rear also performed well, with no visible edge distortion.
But to be honest, the color shift between the main lens and this particular ultra wide lens is probably not the best.
Then finally, the front camera is a 32MP camera.
But while the rear cameras record up to 8K 24 frames per second (fps), I do wish that it recorded up to 30, but that was fine. But the front camera only records up to 1080p 30fps or frames per second.
So yes, that is that one thing they haven’t given us yet, but stay tuned for my in-depth test on these cameras.
Battery
Okay, battery time, the POCO F7 Ultra comes with a huge 5,300 mAh of battery, and that is huge!
And charging, as I spoiled it in the intro, but yes, there’s a huge 120W wired HyperCharge and 50W of wireless charging or HyperCharge. And yes, most laptops charge slower than that.
I’ll be testing the charging speed in a real world test, but do expect a nearly full charge under 25 minutes.
Other Features
Then other things to note is the fact that it has an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, super fast and snappy. It has stereo speakers with Hi-Res and Hi-Res Wireless Audio, and has Dolby Atmos built in as well.
Connectivity wise, we’re looking at a Wi-Fi 7 ready device and it comes with Xiaomi HyperOS 2. So yes, this is indeed a very feature-packed phone that POCO has ever made.
