Samsung Galaxy A77 Spotted with Android 16 and “Flagship-Lite” Chip
Samsung appears poised to resurrect a fan-favourite tier in its smartphone lineup. After a three-year hiatus following the Samsung Galaxy A73, new leaks suggest the tech giant is bringing back the Galaxy A7X series with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy A77.
The device has surfaced on the Geekbench online database, signalling a return to the “upper-midrange” segment, a space that bridges the gap between the popular Galaxy A5X series and the flagship Galaxy S FE models.
The Geekbench Reveal: Powering the Comeback
The benchmark listing provides the first concrete details on what to expect from the Samsung Galaxy A77. The prototype was spotted running Android 16 and packing 8GB of RAM, but the most intriguing detail lies in the silicon.
The device is powered by a mystery Samsung chipset that shares significant DNA with the flagship Exynos 2400 and 2400e platforms. The CPU configuration reveals a deca-core (10-core) architecture:
- 3x Prime Cores clocked at 2.78GHz
- 3x Performance Cores clocked at 2.3GHz
- 4x Efficiency Cores clocked at 1.82GHz
While the core count matches Samsung’s top-tier chips, the clock speeds are slightly lower. This could be a strategic move to utilise “binned” Exynos 2400 chips, processors that didn’t quite meet the maximum frequency requirements for the Galaxy S24 series but are far too powerful to be discarded.
Filling the Gap
The return of the A7X series marks a strategic pivot for Samsung. When the company cancelled the A74 in 2023, it left a noticeable gap between the Galaxy A54 and the Galaxy S23 FE. The A7X line was historically known for offering larger screens and near-flagship cameras without the premium price tag.
By utilising a slightly underclocked version of a flagship processor, the Samsung Galaxy A77 looks to reclaim that territory: offering flagship-grade multi-tasking and gaming performance at a sub-flagship price point.
Expected Launch
While official pricing and design details remain under wraps, the timing of the Geekbench appearance is telling. The Samsung Galaxy A77 appeared alongside a benchmark for the Galaxy A57, leading to speculation that both devices could debut simultaneously.
If Samsung follows its traditional release cycle for the A-series, we can expect an official Unpacked announcement around March 2026.
