One UI 8.5 Introduces Storage Share and Advanced Theft Protection

Samsung Launches One UI 8.5 Beta, Focusing on Seamless Connectivity and Security

Samsung announced the launch of the One UI 8.5 beta programme, promising a new era of enhanced productivity, intuitive content creation, and strengthened security across the Galaxy ecosystem.

The latest iteration of Samsung’s operating system introduces several key features designed to make daily device interaction more fluid and effortless.

Next-Level Content Creation

One UI 8.5 Photo Assist

One UI 8.5 streamlines the content creation pipeline by updating key applications. The Photo Assist feature now allows users to engage in continuous generative image editing without the need to save each version, and provides a full edit history for reviewing all creations.

Sharing is also made smoother through enhancements to Quick Share, which now intelligently recognises individuals in photos and proactively suggests sending the media directly to those contacts, cutting down on steps for the user.

Enhanced Cross-Device Connectivity

  • Audio Broadcast introduces a new utility for group communication, allowing users on the Galaxy S25 series to broadcast their voice via their phone’s built-in microphone to nearby LE Audio-supported devices using Auracast. This feature is ideal for tours or small group events.
  • Storage Share enhances the Galaxy ecosystem’s fluidity by integrating files from other connected Galaxy devices, including tablets and PCs, directly into the My Files app. It enables access to phone files from Samsung Smart TVs.

Strengthened Security Measures

In line with its commitment to user data safety, One UI 8.5 significantly boosts protection measures:

  • Theft Protection has been implemented to keep phones and their data secure in the event of loss or theft.
  • A Failed Authentication Lock will automatically lock the device screen after too many unsuccessful attempts to verify identity via PIN, password, or fingerprint, adding an immediate layer of defence. Identity check features have also been extended to safeguard more system settings.

The One UI 8.5 beta programme is initially available to Galaxy S25 series users in select markets, including the U.S., UK, Germany, India, Korea, and Poland. Galaxy owners can apply to join the programme via the Samsung Members app.
