Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra Could Miss Out on Qi2-Style Internal Magnets

Galaxy S26 Ultra May Skip Built-In Magnets, Report Suggests

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra may not include built-in magnets after all, despite earlier expectations that the entire Galaxy S26 lineup would adopt internal magnets to support Qi2 wireless charging accessories.

Leading up to this new information, the general assumption was that Samsung would follow competitors like Apple and Google by integrating magnets directly into the phone. Those magnets help align charging coils and accessories, improving wireless charging efficiency and compatibility under the Qi2 standard.

However, according to independent sources cited by well-known leaker Ice Universe, the Galaxy S26 Ultra will not feature magnets inside the device itself. Instead, magnetic functionality is said to rely on compatible magnetic cases, rather than being built into the phone.

Earlier impressions were influenced by the appearance of magnetic charging pucks and accessories shown alongside the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which made it seem likely that Samsung had adopted internal magnets. The new claim suggests those accessories were designed to work with magnet-equipped cases instead.

While no official reason has been provided, speculation points to the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s S Pen digitiser as a possible factor. The presence of the digitiser could interfere with internal magnets, though this remains unconfirmed. Samsung has not commented on the report, as the device has yet to be officially announced.

If accurate, the move would put Samsung at odds with Apple and Google, both of which offer flagship phones with built-in magnets that support a wider range of accessories and more reliable wireless charging alignment. For users, this could mean continued reliance on third-party cases for magnetic accessories, limiting convenience compared to competing devices.

As with all pre-launch information, details may change before the Galaxy S26 Ultra is officially revealed.
